This assignment (750 words, submitted via email) asks you to compare your publication from the Publication Analysis to a similar publication: for example, a different publication on the same topic or with a similar purpose or occupying a similar place in the larger publishing world. Your analysis should begin by addressing the following prompts for the new publication:
- What is the purpose of the publication? What does it aim to achieve?
- What type of articles or other content does it publish? How does this content reflect the larger purpose of the publication? Point to specific examples.
Next, compare the two publications:
- What do the publications have in common? In what ways are they similar in their purpose, their content, and/or their audience?
- What sets the publications apart? In what ways are they different in their purpose, their content, and/or their audience?
- What are the relative strengths (and perhaps limits) of each publication? What makes each successful or interesting?
